ALCS news roundup: July

Please sir, I want some more

30/07/2012

The winner of the 2012 ALCS competition for followers of the CILIP Carnegie & Greenaway Medals shadowing scheme was 13 year old Lauren Harries of Howell's School in Llandaff.

We set the young shadowers the challenge of writing a short story in 140 words, and as this is the year of the bicentenary of Charles Dickens, shadowers were asked to use the famous Oliver Twist line ‘Please sir, I want some more’ to start their story.

Lauren took first place for her futuristic spin on the tale, impressing us with her concept of 'More' as the latest invention of 'Dickens and Co. Technology'. Lauren is pictured above with Patrick Ness, winner of the Carnegie Medal in both 2011 and 2012.
