Heather Bateman
Heather Bateman is the author of over 33 children’s books, translated into nine languages, and co-author and editor of over 30 adult non-fiction titles. She works freelance as a commissioning editor, a journalist and a teacher of creative writing to children. Her late husband was a journalist and editor at the Sunday Times, the Sunday Express and the Independent on Sunday. They worked together on many projects, which means she has a good insight into book and newspaper publishing. She also has links with the film industry.
Heather has been Governor of an inner London primary school for 18 years with responsibility for literacy, special needs and, most recently, foreign languages. Her languages are English, French, Spanish, Russian, and German. She has worked as a team member with other Governors, seeing through many changes in Education.
Heather first heard of ALCS when she was contacted with the exciting news that there might be some money waiting for her. And indeed there was. Now in her third year as a Board Director she enjoys being involved in bringing similar glad tidings to others – with all that that entails.
