Royal Society of Literature

The Royal Society of Literature was founded by King George IV in 1820 to ‘reward literary merit and excite literary talent’.

Today, their 450 Fellows include eminent poets, playwrights, novelists, biographers, historians and critics.

Their President is the biographer Sir Michael Holroyd and the Chair is the biographer Anne Chisholm. A Council of Fellows meets monthly to oversee the lecture programme and to campaign in support of writers.
