Benefits

ALCS currently represents nearly 60,000 writer members (in excess of 35,000 being ordinary members). Membership is open to all types of writers and successors to their estates, across the print and broadcast sectors. ALCS paid royalties of £16.74 million in 2006/7 to over 45,000 writers.

ALCS is an organisation run for the benefit of all writers. We continually strive to enhance the benefits for members by increasing our sources of income for secondary use of works and by raising the issue of copyright awareness to governments, consumers and writers themselves.

The main benefits of Ordinary Membership are:

  • Royalties paid at the Members’ rate of commission (currently 9.5%)
  • Voting rights at the ALCS Annual General Meeting and for Board elections
  • Regular copies of ALCS News
  • Entitlement to receive payments from the German Public Lending Right (PLR) scheme
  • Access to the Members’ section of the website

The current cost of Ordinary ALCS Membership is a one off lifetime fee of £25. Members of the Society of Authors members and Writers’ Guild of Great Britain are entitled to free Ordinary Membership of ALCS.
