Eligibility

Any individual writer of published works as well as successors to writers' estates both in the UK and throughout the world can join ALCS. Membership is open to professional and part-time writers in all genres within the print, audiovisual and digital media.

The following categories of writers are all eligible for Membership to ALCS:

Text book authors
Novelists
Freelance journalists
Academic journal writers
Playwrights
Scriptwriters
Translators
Non-fiction writers
Contributors to anthologies
Editors
Poets
Radio dramatists
Comedy writers
Adaptors
Abridgers

Group Authors
Groups of individuals writing in a collective manner, who agree that their fees may be collected centrally, and academics who request that the monies collected be used to benefit their department or academic institution, may register for group author membership. These groups are not permitted to join ALCS as a collective ‘Ordinary Member’, but may register as a payee.
