Don Paterson awarded Queen's Medal
Poet Don Paterson has been awarded the Queen's Medal for Poetry his anthology Rain.
The medal which was first awarded in 1934 was given to him last week alongside the New Year Honours, recognising excellence in poetry published in the last year.
Carol Ann Duffy who chaired the judging panel said that Mr Paterson’s works were "acutely attuned to the most intimate of human exchanges, rendered with a formal grace, a moving candour and a beguiling cadence.”
Mr Paterson who was awarded an OBE in 2008, is also a teacher and editor and has written several radio dramas and collections of aphorisms.
Philip Larkin and Fleur Adcock were both previous winners of the medal.
