Imison and Tinniswood Awards
Stephen Wyatt's Gerontius was given the 2010 Tinniswood Award for the second time in the Best Radio Drama Script category.
The prize, sponsored by ALCS, was presented yesterday at the BBC Broadcasting House in an event hosted by David Tennant.
Mr Wyatt took home £1,500 for his efforts. In the comments, the judges said: “...we had no doubt that the outstanding fluidity and intelligence of Gerontius, the haunting near-perfection of it, could warrant a second Tinniswood award”.
The special recommendation for the same prize went to Rebecca Lenkiewicz for Sarah and Ken. The runners' up in the category were Andrea Earl for The Climb and Nick Warburton for Setting a Glass.
The Tinniswood Award was established by the Society of Authors and the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain to perpetuate the memory of Peter Tinniswood as well as to celebrate and encourage high standards in radio drama.
During the same evening Michelle Lipton was presented The Imison Award for Amazing Grace, which honours the best original script by a writer new to radio.
The judges said: "Michelle Lipton made it easy to picture the unfolding scenes in your head, and to bring the characters and their worlds to life. Grace is a great character, and it was a pleasure to spend five beautifully structured episodes with her." Ms Lipton also took home a £1,500 prize.
Runners up in the same category were Dan Allum for Atching Tan, Matt Hartley’s The Pursuit and Marcia Layne’s The Barber and the Ark.
