Writers' Guild Awards: Outstanding contribution for Victoria Wood

Victoria Wood was last night presented with a special Writers’ Guild Award recognising her outstanding contribution to television writing in a ceremony held in association with ALCS.

Fellow writer Peter Bowker announced the award after which a compilation of her work, including Acorn Antiques, Dinnerladies, Housewife, 49 and Pat and Margaret, was shown to huge applause.

Bowker was also awarded for his TV Drama Eric & Ernie – the story of the early careers of Morecambe and Wise, which coincidentally came from an original idea by Victoria Wood.

Other winners of the night included Jesse Armstrong, Sam Bain and Simon Blackwell for Peep Show; Hugo Blick for his TV drama series The Shadow Line and Roy Williams for his play Sucker Punch. John Finnemore also picked up an award for his radio comedy Cabin Pressure.
