Please keep a check on the ALCS website for more up-to-date information on exactly when the payments will be made.

Google settlement claims - Opt out by the 5th May 2009

If you wish to opt out of the Google settlement claim, you will need to do so by 5 May 2009.

The ALCS AGM 2008

The 30th ALCS AGM took place on Thursday 27 November at the Club Quarter Hotel, Ludgate Hill, London.

A last-minute change of venue as a result of a power failure at the Stationers’ Hall, the AGM’s original location, resulted in a slightly more crowded hall than Members have been used to in the past, but the main business of the AGM went ahead as planned.

Rights and licensing update

Since the last edition of ALCS News the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has outlined proposals for granting access to “orphan works” – works that are still in copyright but for which the owner of the rights cannot be found.

The proposals include a new copyright exception mandated by the European Commission, and a scheme administered by the Treasury Solicitor, which makes use of existing rules applied to “Bona Vacantia” (unclaimed property).

The Writers’ Guild Awards 2008

ALCS was delighted to be one of the sponsors of the 2008 Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Awards and would like to congratulate all the shortlisted nominees as well as the winners.

The Awards evening was held last November at BAFTA, and the event was hosted by comedian Jeremy Hardy.
