Update: Extended Collective Licensing (ECL)

Earlier this year we consulted members regarding a proposal by The Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) to apply to the Government to operate an Extended Collective Licence (ECL).

An ECL would provide legal cover for situations in which works licensed by Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) are not represented through one of its member organisations, for example a book by an author who is not a current ALCS member.

The results of this consultation were overwhelmingly positive with 99% of responding members supporting the CLA’s application. The application has now been submitted and further details can be found in this briefing note and in this press release.

Details on CLA’s ECL application are also on their website.
