Tune in and take part in the UK International Radio Drama Festival

ALCS is delighted to once again sponsor this year’s UK International Radio Drama Festival, which recognises and celebrates the work of emerging radio drama writers.

Now in its fifth year, the Festival will take place from 18–22 March 2019 with the theme Simply the Best. It welcomes submissions in any language and genre, and this year received over 60 entries from 19 different countries. If you’d like to get involved, listening sessions are free and members of the public are welcome to attend on a drop-in basis at Caffè Nero in Canterbury, Kent. However, if you’re unable to attend in person, the plays are available to listen via the Festival’s website.

Acclaimed radio drama actor, Jonathan Keeble, will chair the Festival jury, which will present the winners of two awards with their prizes. The winner of the Long Form Award will receive £2,000, while the winner of the Short Form Award will win £750. Listeners can vote via an online poll for the winner of the Audience Award, who will win £750.

Alongside ALCS, the Festival is sponsored this year by the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain. The full programme can be found on the Festival website, Facebook or Twitter.

About the UK International Drama Festival

The Festival is the UK’s only European festival of its kind to be produced by an independent company rather than a national broadcaster. It is produced by International Arts Partnership (Artistic Director, Jonathan Banatvala) on a mission to bring audio drama in a range of languages and cultural styles to a UK audience. The Festival’s awards have predominantly been made to emerging international independent producers.

ALCS is currently holding around £112,000 in unclaimed royalties for radio writers – if you know someone who’s not a member, let them know they should join us!
