We love what you do and we want you to be paid fairly for it. Fill in our survey

ALCS works hard to support, champion and fight for all types of writer. We need some hard data to back up what we're shouting about. That's why we've commissioned a survey, available to fill in from 1 February to 15 March.

Writers! Here at ALCS we want you to be treated and paid fairly for your work. We want to protect your rights as a creator and a professional. That’s why we need a few minutes of your time. About twenty, to be precise.

Help us to advocate your rights by filling in a survey we’ve commissioned that looks at how writers are earning their money today. We need as many types of authors as possible to complete it. So whether you write textbooks or TV scripts, whether you’re a poet or a translator, we want to hear from you. Here is the survey investigating authors’ earnings.

Help us to advocate your rights by filling in a survey we’ve commissioned that looks at how writers are earning their money today.

In 2017, ALCS commissioned CREATe – UK Copyright and Creative Economy Centre and part of the University of Glasgow – to conduct some independent research into authors’ earnings in the UK. We thought now was a good time to ask you again. Writers have never been more central to society than during the pandemic, when we have relied more than ever on education and entertainment at home.

We need you to help paint an accurate picture of how authors really earn their money from writing today. Gathering yours and other writers’ feedback is one of the most valuable resources we have for understanding the trend of writers’ earnings, and the impact that emerging technologies and markets are having on your working life.

We love what you do and we want you to be paid fairly for it.

The survey takes between 20-30 minutes is entirely anonymous. The questions refer to earnings in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 tax years, so have the relative paperwork handy. At the end, you’ll have the chance to enter a prize draw and be in the running for a £500 cash prize.

We need your help with: this survey. The deadline for submissions is 31 March.

Thank you. We love what you do and we want you to be paid fairly for it.
