March 2022 distribution: What you need to know

Next month, ALCS will pay approximately 90,000 members a share of around £27million. Payments should reach UK bank accounts on or around 23 March.

March will see ALCS’s first distribution of 2022. To make sure you’re included for any eligible works, and to understand the ins and outs of the distribution, please take a moment to catch up on the basics.

A spot of admin ahead of the distribution

Have you changed your bank or contact details since the last ALCS distribution? Make sure you update your ALCS account with the new details to ensure you receive a payment if you’re due one.

Now is the time to check the works we have for you are up to date. Log in to your ALCS account by 3 March and make sure the works listed are correct. If you see any anomalies on your account, please let us know.

Will you get paid?

If we have collected money for your works, you will receive:

  • An email to let you know your statement is ready to download. This will arrive in your inbox between 18-25 March
  • A notification to your ALCS account letting you know there’s a new statement available

If you don’t receive an email and no notification appears in your account, you have not received a payment this time. It’s worth remembering that we receive money from different income streams at different times of the year, so what’s included in each distribution isn’t necessarily the same each year.

We’re unable to send out any paper statements to members, so you’ll need to log in to your online account to access yours. If you don’t have an online account, please contact us and we can set up one for you.

Where does the money come from?

The March 2022 distribution will include payments for retransmissions of audiovisual work; photocopying of books in the educational sector in both the UK and overseas, as well as the government sector in the UK; journal and magazine articles; AuthorSHARE and overseas Public Lending Right (PLR), plus other smaller amounts.

Your statement will show where your works have been used, as well as how they’ve been used and the amounts you’ve been paid for each use.
